Parish Meetings 1948

1948 April 22nd

The Annual Parish Meeting held in the St Lawrence Room on Thursday April 22nd 1948 at 7:30. pm

Present Mr A Cox (Chairman), Mr A.E. Garlike. E.W.G. Spatcher, E.E. French, C.E. Beane, Rolfe and two others.

The Notice convening the Meeting was read.

Mr Cox was elected Chairman of the Meeting.

The Minutes of the Meeting held on 18th September 1947 were read and confirmed.

The Statement of Account of the Parochial Charities was produced by the Secretary to the Charity Trustees.

The explanation of the position concerning the Childrens Playground equipment was given to the Meeting by the Chairman.

On the proposal of Mr Beane seconded by Mr Rolfe it was resolved that the Public Hall Committee be approached with a view to holding a public meeting in connection with the affairs of the Public Hall.

1948 September 3rd

A Parish Meeting held in the St Lawrence Room on Friday the 3rd September 1948 at 7.30 pm

Present Mr A Cox (Chairman) A.E. Garlike. E.W.G. Spatcher, E.E. French, A.J. Illing, H.R. & R.O. Langley, C.E. Beane, F. Rolfe, J. Hall, F. Foster, T.R. Gibbard, E.A. Illing and some 60 others.

The Notice convening the Meeting was read.

On the proposal of Mr Hall seconded by Mr Rolfe it was unanimously resolved that the Parish Council should proceed with their proposals for the acquisition and lay-out of a Public Recreation Ground and if the funds required could not be raised by public subscription that the Parish Council be authorised to take the necessary steps to obtain a loan to be charged upon the rates.

1948 8th September                        

A Parish Meeting convened for the following purpose ‘The Lighting and Watching Act 3 & 4 Wiliam IV. C.90 and for taking into consideration the amount of money to be raised for the purposes of the said Act for the current year in this Parish”

The proposals of the Parish Councils sub committee were discussed and on the proposal of Mr H.R. Langley seconded by Mr R.O. Langley it was resolved that the lamps on the Railway Bridge be retained.

On the proposal of Mr Garlike seconded by Mr French it was resolved that the Parish Councils proposal to light 34 lamps be adopted and that a sum not exceeding £200 be raised for the purposes of the Lighting and Watching Act for the current year in this Parish.
