Margaret Holliman and Sarah Holliman, two customary tenants, surrendered 1 acre of land lying over Stonfurlong in the fields of Winslow, John Shelton's land to the south. For the benefit of William Udden, who was granted seisin. Rent 3d. Fine 2s. Heriot 2s 6d.

Robert Illing and Agnes his wife surrendered a bay and a half of a cottage lately in the tenure of Robert Illing deceased, with free ingress and egress. For the benefit of William Ellis, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 2d. Fine 5s.

Margaret Holliman and Sarah Holliman surrendered 2 acres of land in Winslow fields. For the benefit of William Spooner, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 6d. Fine 4s.

Entry concerning Agnes Tomlyn deceased and holding in Shipton

[f.1v] Robert Manwaring, clerk, has died since the last court. He held 3 acres of land over Clerks furlong, 2 roods over Orell hil furlong in the fields of Winslow. Robert Manwaring gent. his son is heir, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 6½d. Fine 7s. Heriot: a cow worth [blank].

Elizabeth Hobbes has died since the last court. She held 5 half-acres of land in Winslow. Anne Hobbs her daughter is heir, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 7½d. Fine 5s. Heriot 5s.

It was found at the court held on 19 October 1647 that Edmund Tomplyn had died. He held 1 acre near the backside of his messuage, and common for 2 cows in the Cowpasture. Richard Tomlyn his son was heir, who now came to court and was granted seisin. Fine 2s.

Edward Ping and Margaret his wife surrendered a bay on the eastern side of their cottage in Winslow for the benefit of William Ellis, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 2d. Fine 5s.

Peter Fige junior and Martha his wife surrendered 13 roods (or the Ridges) lying together in Dembrom feild next to the road leading to Cleydon bridge to the east, commonly called Gorsthill peice, containing 6 acres by estimate. For the benefit of John Hogson, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 18d. Fine 12s.

Richard Browne and Marjory his wife surrendered a bay on the south side of their cottage in Winslow, the tenement of Thomas Shilborne to the south. For the benefit of Thomas Shilborne, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 2d. Fine 5s.

William Uddens surrendered half a cottage situated in the west end of Winslow being[?] the Wes[....] and 2 acres of land in Winslow fields: over Shipcote furlong 3 selions next to the land of Robert Lownds to the west; 2 selions lying together over Ryfurlong next to Grants Balke with the hads. For the benefit of William Udden [not "the said"] and his heirs, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 6d. Fine 4s.

Hugh Stevens and Anne his wife surrendered 2 acres in the fields of Shipton: in the Blackgrove feild 2 roods over Meadside furlong, the land of Ralph Phipps to the south and William Townsend to the north; in Redfeild 1 rood over Weed furrowes furlong between the land of William Glenister to the south and Ralph Phips to the north; 2 roods over Sowthbrey furlong between the land of John Henly to the west and John Snow to the east; in Licehil feild 2 roods lying over Licehill furlong between the land of Ralph Phipps to the east and William Townesend to the west. For the benefit of Thomas Deely, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 6d. Fine 4s.

Thomas Hogg and Mary his wife surrendered 2 acres in the fields of Winslow: 1 acre over Ryfurlong, the land of John Robinson to the north; 2 selions abutting on Granborow pathway, the land of Andrew Stutsbury to the south. For the benefit of Elizabeth Norman wife of Henry Norman, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 6d. Fine 4s. They also surrendered 1 rood extending to Gilshooke, the land of Peter Fige to the north, for the benefit of Henry Norman, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent ¾d. Fine 6d.

[f.2r] John Grant alias Miller and Joan his wife and John Thorpe and Helen his wife for £100 paid by Thomas Wendover executor of the will of Joan Ford widow and for £6 10s also paid by the churchwardens of Winslow surrendered 3½ acres in the fields of Winslow: 3 selions lying together at Westwell, the land of John Robinson to the east; 1 acre of meadow in Dembrom next to the meadow of Henry Wyat; 4 ridges with hads abutting on Cleydon Brooke, the land of William Lownes to the south. Also a close of pasture containing 3 acres called Blackthorne Close in Winslow in the tenure of Robert Benbow and his assigns. For the benefit of Richard Edmond gent., Peter Fige jr gent., John Paxton gent., William Lownds gent., Nicholas Spooner, John Hogson, John Henly, Henry Pym jr, William Glenister, John Miller, Benjamin Leach & Thomas Grant on trust for the use of the poor of Winslow in perpetuity. The rent arising annually should be distributed by the rector and wardens of the church of Winslow together with those named above and their heirs, for the relief and maintenance of the religious poor of Winslow according to the intention of Joan Ford's will. William Burrow, lately a customary tenant of the manor, and Elizabeth his wife on 4 May last came before the seneschal (Elizabeth being examined alone by the seneschal in the presence of Benedict Glenister, a customary tenant), and remitted and released to Thomas Glenister all Elizabeth's claim to a messuage or tenement in Winslow which Thomas lately held on their[?] surrender.

Mary, daughter of William Lambert gent. deceased, now wife of Edward Bagot esq., is her relative and nearest heir. Mary came through Valentine Fige gent. her attorney and sought admission. Seisin was granted. Annual rent 4s 4d. Fine 26s. Heriot [blank].

Peter Fige jr, gent., and Martha his wife surrendered 8 acres of arable land and leys in Winslow: 4½ leys called Tuckeye leyes containing 1 acre, the land of John Paxton to the south and the Hams to the north; 6 roods lying together at Maracre abutting on Paxtons headland, the land of John Paxton to the north; 7 roods lying together at Gilshould, the land of Benjamin Leach to the north; 6 ridges at Addington hedge, the land of William Lownds to the east; 3 selions over Pondfurlong[?] between the land of Richard Wolston to the north and William Lownds south. For the benefit of Silvester Claver, two whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 2s. Fine 16s.

They also surrendered 2 selions containing 1 acre in Old Milfeild between the land of William Lownds to the east and Thomas Snow west. For the benefit of Benjamin Leach. Fine 2s.

[f.2v] Robert Manwaring gent. and Denise Manwaring widow surrendered 2½ acres in the fields of Winslow: in Dembram feild 6 ridges with hads over Clerks furlong, the land of Richard Edmonds to the west; 2 ridges over the same furlong with hads, the land of Robert Edmonds to the west. In the Milfeild a selion being a headland next to Brach furlong to the north. For the benefit of Silvester Claver, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 7½d. Fine 5s.

Robert Manwaring gent. sought to be admitted to a parcel of land lying at the Vicaridge[?] between the king's highway to the east and west containing 40 feet in length and 33 feet in width on which a house with barn has been built which descended to him after the decease of Robert Maynwaring clerk his father. Seisin was granted. Annual rent 4d. Fine 5s. Robert and Denise Maynwaring, lately wife of Robert Manwaring deceased, and Richard Edmonds gent. then surrendered the parcel of land with house and barn for the benefit of Thomas Kirby, to whom seisin was granted. Fine 5s.

Richard Evans surrendered a messuage or tenement situated in Winslow now in the occupation of Richard himself and Robert Stevens or either of them, for the benefit of the said Robert Stevens, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 7½d. Fine 5s.

Hugh Stevens and Agnes his wife surrendered 8 acres in the fields of Shipton: in Licehilfeild ½ acre over Almeadfurlong, Benjamin Leach's land to the west; 2 roods or ridges over Woodway[?] furlong containing 1 acre, the land of William Townsend to the east; ½ acre over Westslade furlong, the land of William Glenister[?] to the east. Katherine Phipps wife of Richard [=Ralph] Phipps has died since the last court, seised of a messuage and two virgates and a quarter of land in the fields of Winslow, Shipton and Granborow. Richard Phipps is her son and nearest heir, to whom seisin was granted. Fine £6 15s. Heriot [blank]. See the Snow entail 1632, by Katherine's father John Snow.

William Eldridge has died since the last court, seised of 13 acres of land in the fields of Winslow. Elizabeth wife of Michael Hill is his daughter and nearest heir, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 3s [..]d. Fine 26s. Heriot a goose[?] worth 3s 6d.

William Udden has died since the last court, seised of half a messuage in Winslow and 2 acres of land in the fields of Winslow: 1 acre next to Shepcote[?] Leyes and another over Ryfurlong. Richard Udden is his son and nearest heir, to whom seisin was granted. Fine 5s. Heriot a bedstead.

At the court held on 24 Oct 1648 it was found that Agnes Tomlyn died before the court, seised of a half-acre of land lying over Longblackgrove in the fields of Shipton. Richard Tomlyn was her son and nearest heir. He came to this court and sought to be admitted. Seisin was granted to him. Annual rent 1½d. Fine 12d. Heriot 2s 6d.

Richard Shelton surrendered 6 acres of arable land and leys in the fields of Winslow for the benefit of Joseph Hartwell, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 18d. Fine 12s. Heriot 5s 8d.

Sarah Snow daughter of Richard Snow surrendered a cottage in Shipton now in the occupation of Elizabeth Miller for the benefit of Thomas Barton, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 6d. Fine 5s. No heriot because Sarah holds other lands.

William Glenister surrendered a messuage situated in Shipton and also three orchards and one close adjoining it containing 2 acres. For the benefit of Francis Dodsworth, on condition that if William pays him 40s on 27 April next and £52 on 27 Oct 1650 at Francis Dodsworth's mansion house in Whaddon Parke the surrender will be null and void. Fine 5s. No heriot.

Thomas Grant and Susan his wife surrendered 8 acres of land lying together over Orelhill and Orelslade, 3 acres over Rye furlong near Westwell, and 2 acres over Broadfurlong, for the benefit of Maurice Griffith clerk, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 3s 4d. Fine 26s. No heriot. Maurice Griffith(s) was vicar of East Claydon 1624-63.

Daniel Sayer and Anne his wife surrendered 8 leys containing 3 acres lying in the fields of Winslow over Coldham furlong, the land of Thomas Snow[?] to the west. For the benefit of Silvester Claver, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 9d. Fine 6s.

Hugh Stevens and Anne his wife surrendered 2 acres in the fields of Shipton: in the Cowpasture 1 acre over Trendlefurlong, the land of John Miller to the west, and another acre in Bewles deane, the land of William Townsend to the west. For the benefit of Thomas Gresham, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 6d. Fine 4s. No heriot.

Robert Manwaring clerk and Dorothy his wife held for themselves and the heirs of their bodies with reversion to the rightful heirs of Richard Edmonds deceased 3 acres of land in the fields of Winslow: in Milfeild 1 acre over Dudslow furlong, the land of Richard Edmonds to the west; in Dembrom feild 1 acre at Gores Bush commonly called the Hen and Chick, the land of Andrew Stutsbury to the south, and another acre in Stonefeild lying over Shortcostowe between the land of Peter Fige gent. on either side. They died before this court without an heir of their bodies. Richard Edmunds gent. is the nearest heir of Richard Edmunds deceased, namely the son of William Edmunds gent. deceased the son of Richard. Now Richard Edmunds sought to be admitted, and seisin was granted to him. Annual rent 9d. Fine 6s. No heriot. Afterwards Richard surrendered the 3 acres for the benefit of Christopher Bigg and Jane his wife, to whom seisin was granted. Fine 6s.
Robert's surviving children came from his second marriage; see his will (1648).

William Tapping and Rebecca his wife surrendered an ancient cottage or tenement situated at the Stone Crosse in Winslow, lately Henry Wallis', and a piece of land lying near the house 99[?] feet in length and 38 feet in width now in the tenure of the said William Tapping, for the benefit of Francis Woodcock, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 2s 2d. Fine 5s. Heriot 5s. Afterwards John Williat gent. made a complaint about Francis Woodock on a plea of land. Fictitious legal procedure follows which ends with the holding being granted to Francis Woodcock. Francis then surrenders the holding to William Tapping, on condition that if Francis pays William £40 on 27 Nov next and £25 on 25 March 1650 and £25 on 29 Sep following at the Red crosse Brewhouse situated in Thames Street, London, the surrender is to be void. Fine 5s.

[f.3v] William Hogson and Margery his wife surrendered 3 acres of land lying together over Nether Trowbridge furlong in Winslow Ould Milfeild, for the benefit of Robert Stevens, to whom seisin was granted. Annual rent 9d. Fine 6s. No heriot. Afterwards John Williat gent. made a complaint against Robert Stevens on a plea of land. Fictitious legal procedure follows which ends with the land being granted to Robert Stevens.
