Wills of William Baker and John Stasy, 1456 (proved 1457)

In, etc. 21 December AD 1456 I William Baker of Wynselowe, of sound mind and memory but sick in body, make my will, etc. First I bequeath my soul to God, etc., and my body to be buried in the churchyard of the parish church of Wynselowe aforesaid. Item I bequeath to the church of the monastery of St Albans 12d. Item I bequeath to the high altar 2 bushels of barley. Item I bequeath to the altar of St Mary in the church 1 [bushel] of the same. Item I bequeath to the altar of Mary in purification 1 bushel of barley. Item I bequeath to the altar of St Nicholas 1 bushel of the same. Item I bequeath to the altar of St Thomas 1 bushel of the same. Item I bequeath to the torches 2 bushels of barley. Item I bequeath to the porch 20d. Item I bequeath to the painting of St Laurence 6d. The residue indeed of all my goods not bequeathed above I give and bequeath to Alice my wife and Robert Myller, and I make them my executors that they may ordain and dispose for the salvation of my soul as etc. Probate 7 June AD 1457.

Notes

William Baker regularly served as juror but his death was not recorded in the Court Books, but in 1459 his widow Alice surrendered her holdings in a retirement agreement with Nicholas and Alice King: two cottages, a toft and croft, and 13 acres 1 rood of land.

Another will of a William Baker with a wife named Alice was made in 1456 and proved in 1458.

John Stasy was married to Isabel widow of Thomas Cordell (d.1447; WMCB p.637).
