Notes

Catherine Carling was originally from Woburn and came to Winslow because of her sister Louisa, wife of William George (d.1886), grocer and stationer at 34 High Street. She was living (or at least staying) with the Georges in the 1861 Census. Her age was registered as 82 when she died in 1898, but the age she gave in the Censuses was rather different: in 1871 she was aged 40 and living with her brother John in Ampthill, and in 1881 she was still there and aged 52. John died in 1885. Catherine bought 36 High Street and land at the rear from George Ingram in 1886.

John Buckingham the executor named in the codicil married the niece Harriet Carling George.
