Notes

James Hall was probably the mason listed in the Posse Comitatus of 1798. He was the second husband of Penelope Gibbs (b.1771), who owned a share of the Rose and Crown. They were married between 1802 and 1809 (she was previously married to Robert Mayne), and he kept the Rose and Crown from 1810 or earlier. They had one son, James Gibbs Hall, b.1809. Penelope died in 1838.
