Will of Joanna Hinton, widow, 1797

In the name of God Amen I Joanna Hinton of Winslow in the County of Bucks Widow being indisposed in Body but of sound Mind Memory and Understanding (Praised be God for the same) do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I give and bequeath unto my Nephew John Hogg of Northampton Coal Merchant and my Niece Sarah Wilkinson of Stony Stratford in the said County of Bucks Widow the Legacy or Sum of One hundred Pounds a piece of lawful Money of Great Britain  Also I give and bequeath unto Thomas Hogg of Adstock in the said County of Bucks Yeoman (Son of my Nephew Thomas Hogg) the Legacy or Sum of Sixty Pounds of like lawful Money  Also I give and bequeath unto my two Nephews William Corbett of Tingewick in the said County of Bucks and John Corbett of Syresham \Hatch/ in the County of Northampton Victualler the Legacy or Sum of Forty five Pounds a piece of like Money  Also I give and bequeath unto my Niece Ann the Wife of William Read of Preston Bissett in the said County of Bucks Dairyman the Legacy or Sum of Forty five Pounds of like Money  Also I give and bequeath unto my Kinswomen Elizabeth the Wife of Wiliam Brandon of Steeple Claydon in the said County of Bucks Labourer and Ann the Wife of Anthony Bazely of Whitchurch in the said County of Bucks Cooper the Legacy or Sum of Twenty Pounds a piece of like Money  Also I give and bequeath unto my Nephew Thomas Hogg of Slapton in the said County of Northampton the Legacy or Sum of Twenty Pounds of like Money  And Whereas there is now due and owing to me from my said Nephew Thomas Hogg upon his Promisory Note or on some other Security the sum of One hundred pounds shall immediately after my decease be delivered up to my said Nephew Thomas Hogg to be cancelled and destroyed  All which said several and respective Legacies or Sums of Money hereinbefore by me bequeathed I do hereby

[f.2] order and direct to be paid to my said several and respective Legatees within twelve Calendar Months next after my Decease And my Will and Mind is that if any or either of the said Legatees shall happen to die before his her or their Legacy or Legacies shall become due and payable then I give and bequeath the Legacy or Legacies of him her or them so dying unto and amongst the Child or children of him her or them so dying equally to be divided \between/ them if more than one share and share alike  And Lastly as to for and concerning the rest residue and remainder of my personal Estate ready Money Debts and Securities for Money Chattels rights Credits and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever (not hereinbefore by me given and disposed of) after payment of my just Debts and Funeral Expences and Charges of proving this my Will I do hereby give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my Nephew William Hogg of Addington in the said County of Bucks Dairyman to and for his own Use and Benefit absolutely and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Nephew William Hogg full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this to be my last Will and Testament only  In Witness whereof I the said Joanna Hinton the Testatrix have to this my Will contained in two sheets of Paper to the first sheet thereof set my Hand only and to the second and last my Hand and seal this Sixth Day of July in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety seven

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Joanna Hinton the Testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto at the request and in the presence of the said Testatrix and also in the presence of each other

On the ninth Day of October 1797 the withinnamed William Hogg sole Executor of the withinmentioned Joanna Hinton deceased was duly sworn before me Jonathan Brigges Surrogate the personal Effects sworn under Six Hundred Pounds


Notes

Joanna is probably the Mrs Hinton who was living in part of 9 Horn Street in 1795 (recorded in the Land Tax). She doesn't seem to have owned any property in Winslow. She was apparently the sister of Thomas Hogg of Addington, whose daughter Sarah married Thomas Wilkinson there in 1768.
