I   E L I Z A B E T H    M A R Y   C A R O L I N E   L A M B T O N of 47 Eaton Place in the County of Middlesex Widow hereby revoke all former Wills and Testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and declare this to be my last Will and Testament which I make this second day of March One thousand nine hundred and six

  1. I appoint my two Sons Captain William Henry Lambton and Ralph Edward Lambton to be the EXECUTORS and TRUSTEES of this my Will (hereinafter called my Trustees)
  2. I give the contents at the time of my death of the sitting_rooms at my house 47 Eaton Place or any other London House to which I may have removed to my eldest son the said Captain William Henry Lambton
  3. I give all the furniture (other than that which is included in the foregoing bequest to my eldest son) at my house 47 Eaton Place or any other London House to which I may have removed my lace all my house linen marked E.L and all my plate called Harcourt Plate marked with Peacock or Hand and Staff to my Daughter Dorothy Lambton
  4. I give the water_colour picture of myself by Taylor the picture of a Monk by Lewis the picture of a Beggar by Hunt being two water colour_pictures formerly the property of my Mother and the two handled blue Worcester china cup and saucer to my said son Ralph Edward Lambton.
  5. I bequeath the sum of Three thousand three hundred pounds to my Trustees upon trust to  invest the same in securities for the time being authorised by Law as investments which may be made by Trustees and to vary the same at my Trustees discretion and to pay the income arising from the said sum of Three thousand three hundred pounds and the investments for the time being representing the same to my Sister Florence Craufurd for her life and after her death   I direct that the said sum and interest thereon shall be held in trust for my Niece Aline Lambton absolutely
  6. Whereas by an Indenture of Settlement made on the Eighteenth day of March One thousand eight hundred and sixty seven between Henry Ralph Lambton of the first part myself (therein called Elizabeth Mary Caroline Harcourt) of the second part and The Right Honourable Edward Cavendish commonly called Lord Edward Cavendish Arthur Lambton and William Henry Frederick Cavendish (hereinafter called the Trustees) of the third part (being the Settlement made previously to my marriage with the said Henry Ralph Lambton) certain trust funds and premises were settled (subject to certain life interests therein which have since determined and to my own life interest) Upon trust after the death of the said Henry Ralph Lambton and myself for the issue of my said marriage as the said Henry Ralph Lambton and myself should jointly appoint and in default of such  joint appointment as the survivor of us should by deed or Will appoint And whereas my husband the said Henry Ralph Lambton died on the Twenty fourth day of January one thousand eight hundred and ninety six without having concurred with me in exercising such joint power of appointment as aforesaid And whereas I have five children now living all of whom have attained the age of twenty one years and of whom I consider my said two sons are otherwise sufficiently provided for and I am desirous of exercising my powers of appointment over the funds comprised in the said Indenture of Settlement in favour of my three daughters Bertha Mary Barnard Margaret Beatrix Erskine and Dorothy Lambton in manner following Now In exercise of the powers for this purpose given to me by the said Indenture and of all other powers if any me hereunto enabling I hereby direct and appoint that the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of the said Indenture of Settlement shall after my decease stand possessed of all the moneys stocks funds securities and trust premises for the time being subject to the trusts thereof upon trust to divide the same into four equal parts and to pay or transfer two of such parts of my said daughter Margaret Beatrix Erskine absolutely one such part to my said daughter Bertha Mary Barnard absolutely and one such part to my said daughter Dorothy Lambton absolutely
  7. I devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate not hereby otherwise disposed of unto my said son Captain William Henry Lambton absolutely

I   E L I Z A B E T H    M A R Y   C A R O L I N E   L A M B T O N of 47 Eaton Place in the County of Middlesex Widow hereby declare this to be a CODICIL to my Will which Will bears date the second day of March One thousand nine hundred and five Whereas I have by my said Will directed and appointed that the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of the Indenture of Settlement dated the eighteenth day of March One thousand eight hundred and sixty seven therein mentioned shall after my decease stand possessed of all the moneys stocks funds securities and trust premises for the time being subject to the trusts thereof upon trust to divide the same into four equal parts and to pay or transfer two of such parts to my daughter Margaret Beatrix Erskine one such part to my daughter Bertha Mary Barnard and one such part to my daughter Dorothy Lambton  And whereas my said daughter Bertha Mary Barnard being otherwise well provided for I am desirous of revoking the said appointment of the said trust premises made by my said Will   Now I do hereby revoke the said appointment contained in my said Will of the moneys stocks funds securities and trust premises for the time being subject to the trusts of the said Indenture of Settlement and hereby direct and appoint that the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of the said Indenture of Settlement shall after my decease stand possessed of all the moneys stocks funds securities and trust premises for the time being subject to the trusts thereof upon trust to divide the same into three equal parts and to pay or transfer two of such parts to my said daughter Margaret Beatrix Erskine absolutely and one such part to my said daughter Dorothy Lambton absolutely And in all other respects I confirm my said Will   IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand this fourteenth day of May One thousand nine hundred and sixteen – ELIZABETH M. I   E LI Z A B E T H    M A R Y   L A M B T O N of 47 Eaton Place in the County of Middlesex Widow declare this to be a CODICIL to my Will dated the Second March one thousand nine hundred and five Whereas I hold Seven hundred pounds Five per cent War Loan 1929-1947  Now I make the following bequests free of Legacy Duty in favour of the several legatees hereinafter named in case such legatees shall respectively be in my service at the time of my death.  To Florence Burrough Two hundred pounds War Loan To Arthur Gooding One hundred pounds War Loan To Alice Kent One hundred pounds War Loan To Rose Newman One hundred pounds War Loan To Studwell Berry One hundred pounds War Loan   IN WITNESS      whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 17th Saturday or February One thousand nine hundred and seventeen -                       -

ON the 27th day of July 1917 Probate of this Will and two Codicils was granted to William Henry Lambton one of the executors.


Grant of probate

BE IT KNOWN that Elizabeth Mary Caroline Lambton of 47 Eaton Place in the County of Middlesex Widow
died on the 27th day of April 1917, at Redfield Winslow in the County of Buckingham
AND BE IT FURTHER KNOWN that at the date hereunder written the last Will and Testament
of the said deceased was proved and registered in the Principal Probate Registry of His Majesty’s High Court of Justice, and that administration of all the estate which by law devolves to and vests in the personal representative of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to William Henry Lambton of Redfield aforesaid Captain H.M  Army Son of deceased one of the Executors named in the said Will         Power reserved to the other executor.
