This is the last Will and Testament of me Susannah Mitchell of Winslow in the County of Buckingham Spinster I appoint William Thomas Matthews of Winslow aforesaid Builder Executor of this my Will I give to my said Executor all my household furniture goods and effects upon trust to divide them among my nephew and nieces John Mitchell Ann Mitchell Emma Matthews Harriet Horn and Harriet Botterell in accordance with the directions that I shall give him in my lifetime or in default as may seem fair and just in his sole discretion I give to Mrs Hooper the daughter of my former mistress Mrs Dudley the Legacy of Five pounds I direct my said Executor to pay my just debts and my funeral and testamentary expenses and the said legacy out of the money that I have in the Buckingham Savings Bank and after payment thereout of such debts expenses and legacy I give the balance of the said moneys and any other money or property of any description that I may have or be entitled to at my death and have not already disposed of by this my Will to be equally divided between the said John Mitchell Ann Mitchell Emma Matthews Harriet Horn and Harriet Botterill And I revoke all other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand the sixth day of January One thousand eight hundred and ninety one

Signed by Susannah Mitchell the Testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request in her presence and the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses

On the Thirty first day of December 1895 Probate of this Will was granted at Oxford to William Thomas Matthews the sole Executor
It is hereby certified that the foregoing is a correct Copy

BE IT KNOWN  that at the date hereunder written the last Will and Testament of Susannah Mitchell of Winslow in the County of Buckingham, Spinster, deceased, who died on the 28th day of October 1895, at Winslow aforesaid, and who at the time of his death had a fixed place of abode at Winslow aforesaid within the District of the Counties of Oxford, Berks and Buckingham, was proved and registered in the District Probate Registry of Her Majesty’s High Court of Justice at Oxford and that Administration of the personal estate of the said deceased was granted to  William Thomas Matthews of Winslow aforesaid, Builder, the sole Executor named in the said Will, he having been first sworn to well and faithfully administer

Notes

Susannah Mitchell was aged 82 when she died. She was born in Newton Longville. In 1861 she was living at The Limes (5 Horn Street) as nurse to the Dudley family. She was still there in 1871 as domestic servant and 1881 as housekeeper. In 1891 she was living alone in Church Yard, i.e. what is now called Church Walk. Her niece Emma Matthews (nee Mitchell) was the wife of W.T. Matthews the builder (married in 1877); she was also a servant of the Dudleys in 1871.
