Will of Alice Tomlyns, 1465

In etc. 4 May AD 1465.  I Alice Tomlyns of Wynselowe, sound of mind, make my will in this way.  First I bequeath my soul to God the almighty father, the blessed virgin Mary and all the saints, and my body to be buried in the graveyard of the parish church of Wynselowe aforesaid. Item I bequeath to the high altar 12d.  Item I bequeath to the decoration of the altar of St Mary 2d.  Item to the repair of the altar of St Mary in purification 2d.  Item I bequeath to the maintenance of the altar of St Nicholas 2d.  Item to the altar of St Thomas the martyr 2d.  Item I bequeath to the repair of the torches 4d.  Item to the painting of the sepulchre 1[2d]. Item I bequeath to the lights of the saints in the aforesaid church 1 lb of wax. Item to the mother church of St Albans 12d. Item to the vicar of Wynselowe beforesaid 4s 4d to pray for my soul. The residue indeed of all my goods not bequeathed above I give and bequeath to my executor.  And John Hoggyston my son I ordain, make and appoint my executor to dispose for my soul as will seem most expeident to him. Given etc.

Notes

Alice was the widow of William Tomlyn, d.1464. Her son from a previous marriage John Hoggeston died in 1481.
