Notes

John Turnham was born in 1821, son of William and Frances Turnham. His father was a butcher, as was his brother Thomas Turnham (d.1868). He married Elizabeth Mendy of Broughton near Aylesbury in 1847. They were living in Sheep Street in 1851, and bought 8-10 Horn Street in 1867. Elizabeth died in 1896 aged 72.

1894, 28 April: Bucks Herald
We … record with regret the death of Mr. John Turnham, baker and mealman, of Winslow, which occurred somewhat suddenly on Saturday morning. Mr Turnham was one of the few remaining of the old-type of tradesmen - born and bred in Winslow, respected by all who knew him as upright and straightforward, and withal distinguished by an unusual kindliness of nature - a man who wished everyone well, and would lend a helping hand to anyone if it lay in his power to do so.

William Turnham the son carried on and expanded the bakery business. Mary the daughter married John Mayne in 1872 and went to live at Watford but John and Elizabeth Turnham brought up her children who are named in the will. Anne Frances Mayne married William Norris Midgley who witnessed the will.
