
Will of Richard Coxill, cooper, 1877 (proved 1879)

This is the last Will and Testament of me Richard Coxill of Winslow in the County of Bucks Cooper. I appoint my Wife Alice and my Son Richard John Coxill Executrix and Executor of my Will.
I bequeath unto my said Wife Alice all my household goods and furniture linen china and other household effects and also all my stock in trade and other book debts owing to me at the time of my decease subject nevertheless to her paying my just debts my funeral and testamentary expenses. I devise all the real estate to which I shall be beneficially entitled at the time of my decease unto my said Son Richard John Coxhill his heirs and assigns absolutely subject nevertheless to him paying thereout to each of my Children Louisa Bloxham, Ann Smith and William Thomas Coxill the Legacy or sum of Fifty pounds within twelve calendar months next after my decease. I devise all the real estate which shall at my decease be vested in me as Trustee or Mortgagee to my said Son Richard John Coxill his heirs and assigns subject to the trusts and equities affecting the same respectively.
Lastly I revoke all other Wills. In Witness whereof I the said Richard Coxill the Testator have hereunto set my hand this Eighth day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy seven.

ON the Tenth day of March 1879, the Will of Richard Coxill late of Winslow in the County of Buckingham, Cooper, deceased, who died on the Sixteenth day of December 1878 at Winslow aforesaid, was proved in Her Majesty’s High Court of Justice in the District Registry attached to Probate Division thereof at Oxford by the Oaths of Alice Coxill of Winslow aforesaid, Widow, the Relict of the deceased, and Richard John Coxill of the same place, Cooper, the Son of the deceased, the Executors named (in the said Will) they having been first sworn duly to administer.
It is hereby certified the above is a correct Copy. Dated this Twentieth day of March 1879.

Richard was the second generation of the Coxill family of coopers. He was 74 when he died. Read more about the family and the property in which they lived. The children mentioned in the will are:
- Louisa (b.1841): married Henry Bloxham in 1865; he was a grocer and tea dealer in Thame
- Richard John (1843-1908) who carried on the business (see his will)
- Ann (b.1845): married Joseph Smith in Luton in 1868; he was a bootmaker
- William Thomas (b.1854): became a butcher in Birmingham
