BE IT KNOWN that George Egleton, the Younger, of Winslow in the County of Buckingham, Grocer, who at the time of his death had a fixed place of abode at Winslow aforesaid, within the District of the Counties of Oxford, Berks and Buckingham, died on the Seventh day of February 1908 at Winslow aforesaid.
AND BE IT FURTHER KNOWN that at the date hereunder written the last will and Testament with a Codicil thereto, of the said deceased was proved and registered at the District  Probate Registry of His Majesty’s High Court of Justice at Oxford and that the Administration of the personal estate of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to  John Gates of Winslow aforesaid, Relieving Officer, the Executor named in the said Will and Edwin Egleton of the same place \retired/ Grocer, the Brother of the Deceased, the Executor named in the said Codicil.

This is the last Will and Testament of me George Egleton, the Younger, of Winslow in the County of Buckingham, Grocer. I appoint my friends William Hall Stevens of Winslow aforesaid Tailor and John Gates of Winslow aforesaid Relieving Officer (hereinafter called “my Trustees”) to be the Executors and Trustees of this my Will I devise all my real estate unto my Trustees upon Trust to permit my Father George Egleton to receive the rents profits and income arising therefrom during his life but subject nevertheless to his keeping the buildings in  good repair and condition and to his insuring and keeping the same insured to their full value in the names of my Trustees And upon the decease of my said Father Upon trust to sell and convert into money my said real estate and after payment out of the proceeds of the expenses  of attending such sale and conversion to divide the residue of the said money unto and equally between and among my Brothers Thomas Harry and Edwin and my Sisters Elizabeth Gowin and Rosa Benbow I bequeath all the personal estate to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease unto my Trustees Upon trust that my Trustees shall sell call in and convert into money the same or such part thereof as shall not consist of money and shall with and out of the moneys produced by such sale calling in and conversion and with and out of the ready money pay my funeral and testamentary expenses and debts and shall invest the residue of the said moneys with power for my Trustees from time to time at their discretion to vary such investments And shall stand possessed of the said residuary trust moneys and the investments for the time being representing the same (hereinafter called the residuary trust funds) In trust to pay the income thereof to my said Father George Egleton during his life and after his decease In trust to pay out of the residuary trust funds the Legacy or sum of Fifty pounds free of duty to my Niece Annie Beatrice Egleton and the Legacy or sum of Fifty pounds free of duty to Mary Ann Egleton the Widow of my late Brother Charles provided she shall then be unmarried And to stand possessed of the remainder of the residuary trust funds In trust for my said Brothers Thomas Harry and Edwin and my said Sisters Elizabeth Gowin and Rosa Benbow in equal shares Provided always that if either of my said Brothers and Sisters shall die in my lifetime or during the lifetime of my said Father George Egleton (should he survive me) leaving a child or children who shall survive me and my said Father and being a Son or Sons shall attain the age of twenty one years or being a Daughter or Daughters shall attain that age or marry under that age then and in every such case the last mentioned child or children shall take (and if more than one equally between them) the share or shares which his her or their parent would have taken under this my  Will if such parent had survived me and my said Father George Egleton. In witness whereof I the said George Egleton the younger the Testator have hereunto set my hand this Nineteenth day of October One thousand nine hundred and four.

This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me George Egleton, the Younger, of Winslow in the County of Buckingham, Grocer which Will bears date this Nineteenth day of October One thousand nine hundred and four. Whereas by my said Will I have appointed William Hall Stevens of Winslow aforesaid Tailor to be one of the Trustees and Executors thereof Now I hereby revoke the appointment of William Hall Stevens as such Trustee and Executor And I appoint my Brother Edwin Egleton to be a Trustee and Executor of my said Will in the place of the said William Hall Stevens And I declare that my said Will shall be construed and take effect as if the name of the said Edwin Egleton were inserted in my said Will throughout instead of the name of William Hall Stevens And in all other respects I confirm my said Will In witness whereof I the said George Egleton the younger the Testator have hereunto set my hand this Tenth day of January One thousand nine hundred and eight

On the Second day of May 1908 Probate of this Will with one Codicil was granted at Oxford to John Gates and Edwin Egleton the Brother the Executors

Notes

In the 1901 Census George Egleton aged 35 (sic) was living with his widower father George, niece Beatrice aged 25 and nephew Alfred Egleton aged 15 at their grocer's shop, 81 High Street. In 1910 his executors owned 5 houses in Avenue Road, and land in Avenue Road and Buckingham Road. George sr died in 1922; see his will for more information about the family.
