Notes
George Egleton was aged 97 when he died. He lived and had his shop at 81 High Street, which was put up for sale in 1925. He established his shop there in 1869, apparently replacing two cottages which had previously been on the site.
In 1850 George Egleton, son of George (both coopers at the time) married Eliza Goodger, dressmaker, daughter of Thomas Goodger (brewer). Eliza Egleton aged 74 died in 1899. Their children were:
- William b.1851, not in will, ?died young
- Thomas b.1852; grocer and cheesemonger in Lewisham in 1911
- Elizabeth b.1853; m.1877 David Edward Gowin
- Charles b.1855, d. before 1904
- Harry b.1857; grocer living in High Street in 1911; d.1932
- Rosa b.1859; m.1892 Ralph Benbow
- Edwin b.1860; grocer at Great Horwood in 1901; retired grocer living in Park Road in 1911
- Emily b.1861; see below
- George b.1864 d.1908; see his will
Emily's unusual treatment is explained by the 1901 Census, where she is registered as "mistress" of Harry Martin, restaurant ?cook, in ?Marcia Road, Southwark, with 3 illegitimate children, giving her age as 27.
