Will of John Hobbys of Little Horwood, 1500

[translation from Latin] In the name of God amen. On 13 May 1500 I John Hobbys, sound of mind and of good memory, make my will in this way. First I bequeath my soul to almighty God, the blessed Virgin Mary and all his saints, and my body to be buried in the churchyard of the church of St Nicholas the Bishop of Little Horwod. Item I bequeath to the high altar for my tithes negligently forgotten 2 bushels of malt. Item I bequeath to the light of the sepulchre of our lord Jesus Christ 2 bushels of malt. Item I bequeath to the light of the Holy Cross one bushel of malt. Item I bequeath to each of the other altars of the aforesaid church one bushel of malt. Item I bequeath to the bells 2 bushels of malt. Item I bequeath to the repair of the torches 2 bushels of malt. Item I bequeath to all the works of the aforesaid church faithfully to be done 4 bushels of wheat [triticum] and 8 bushels of malt. Item I bequeath to the vicar of the said church to pray for the salvation of my soul xij d. Item I bequeath to John Wodeman for his labour xij d. Item I bequeath to Thomas my son my cloak [armilausa]. Item I bequeath to John my son my best gown and two ewes with their lambs. Item I bequeath to Henry my son a buckle[?]. Item I bequeath to Agnes my daughter a basin. Item to Joan my younger daughter a heifer. Item I bequeath to Joan my elder daughter a bushel of wheat [frumentum] and another bushel of malt. Item I bequeath to the church of the monastery of St Albans two pence. Item I bequeath to the church of All Saints of Sulbery 4 bushels of malt. Item I bequeath to each of my godchildren j d. Item I bequeath to Isabel my daughter a heifer for the space of one year of age [sic]. The residue indeed of all my goods not bequeathed above, my debts previously well and faithfully paid, I give and bequeath to Elizabeth my wife and my young children, and the same Elizabeth my wife and John Wodeman I make, ordain and appoint my executors, to dispose of everything faithfully for the salvation of my soul, and for the souls of my parents and for the souls of all the faithful deceased, as seems best to them. Notes
Probate was granted on the same day as for William Jenkyns, when the Archdeacon visited Winslow because of the estate of William Robertson.
buckle: the text seems to read buclm, which probably means buclam = buckle but could be a form of boviculum = bullock.
