In etc. On the Monday before Christmas [22 Dec] AD 1455 I John Kyng of Greneburgh, sound of mind and of good memory although sick of body, lying on my deathbed [languens in extremis], make my will etc. First I bequeath my soul to God, the Blessed Mary <and> all his saints, and my body to be buried in the churchyard of St John the Baptist of Greneburgh. Item I bequeath to the high altar 1 bushel of barley. Item I bequeath to the 4 lights in the church there a half-quarter of barley. Item I bequeath to the convent of the monastery of St Albans 4d. Item I bequeath to the parish clerk of Greneburgh 1 bushel of barley. Item I bequeath to the poor 12d. The residue etc. and to carry out the will faithfully I give and bequeath to my executors that they etc., and I ordain , make and appoint as my executors Geoffrey my brother, William Thomlyn senior of Wynselowe and John Thomlyn of the same vill.

Notes

John Kynge's death was recorded in the court books in 1456 (WMCB p.693). He held in Granborough 2 messuages, a virgate and 2 acres, some inherited from his father Ralph and some acquired in 1411/12. His brother Geoffrey who lived in Winslow was his heir. The executors William (d.1472) and John Tomlyn were the sons of Henry Tomlyn (d.1452).

John and Geoffrey's mother Alice died in 1426 and her will was recorded in the court books (p.496).
