In the Name of God Amen I Augustine Seaton the Elder of Winslow in the County of Bucks Butcher being in good Health of Body and of Sound and disposing Mind Memory and Understanding Do make and Ordain this my last Will  and Testament in Manner and form following (that is to Say) First I Give and bequeath unto my Loving Wife Rosamund Seaton All that my \Copyhold/ Messuage or Tenement Situate Standing and being in Bovington in the County of Hertford and now in the Occupation of my Son Robert Seaton And also all that my Copyhold Messuage or Tenement Situate Standing and being in Winslow aforesaid wherein I and Catherine Goodman now Dwell And also all that my Copyhold Messuage or Tenement Situate Standing and being in Winslow aforesaid and now in the Occupation of Thomas Capp Together with all Houses Outhouses Edifices Buildings Barns Stables Yards Orchards Gardens and Backsides with their and every of their Appurtenances thereunto belonging for and during the Term of her Natural Life and from and Immediately after my said Wife’s Decease Then I further give and bequeath All that my said Copyhold Messuage or Tenement Situate and being in Bovington aforesaid with all and every of their Appurtenances thereunto belonging unto my said Son Robert Seaton To hold unto him my said Son Robert Seaton his Heirs and Assigns for Ever Subject Nevertheless to the payment of Fifty Pounds of Lawful Money of Great Britain unto my Son Thomas Seaton within Twelve Months Next after he my said Son Robert Seaton shall come into Possession of \the/ said Messuage or Tenement herein before given him and I do hereby Charge all Such Estate with the true payment of the Same Also I Give and bequeath unto my Son Augustine Seaton after the Decease of my said Wife as aforesaid All that Copyhold Messuage or Tenement Situate in Winslow aforesaid wherein I and Catherine Goodman now Dwell with their and every of their Appurtenances thereunto belonging To hold to him my said Son Augustine Seaton his Heirs and Assigns for Ever Also I Give and bequeath unto my Son  Richard Seaton after the Decease of my said Wife as aforesaid All that Copyhold Messuage or Tenement Situate in Winslow aforesaid and now in the Occupation of the said Thomas Capp with their and every of their Appurtenances thereunto belonging To hold to him my said Son Richard Seaton his Heirs and Assigns for Ever And as to for and Concerning all my Goods Chattels Rights Credits and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what Nature kind or Quality soever the Same may be which I shall be in any Wise possessed of Interested in or Intitled unto at the time of my Decease I do Give and bequeath the Same unto my said Wife Rosamund Seaton And I do Charge my said Personal Estate so given to her as aforesaid with the true payment of all my Just Debts and Funeral Expences and I do hereby Nominate and Appoint my said Wife Rosamund Seaton full and Sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be and Contain my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this sixth day of January in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Five.

Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Testator Augustine Seaton as and for his last Will and Testament in the Presence of us who have hereunto Subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereunto in the Presence of the said Testator and also in the Presence of each other.

Notes

Augustine Seaton (1701-66) was the son of John Seaton, butcher (1658-?1730) and his first wife Rebecca. He was the grandson of Thomas Grimes of Steeple Claydon (d.1723). He married Rosamund Gibbs at Wotton Underwood in 1726 (she died in 1771). Their son Augustine (1739-1810) continued the butcher's business at 24 Horn Street. Richard Seaton the youngest son (1746-1824) was a brandy merchant, who eventually styled himself "gentleman".
