In the Name of God Amen I Robert Elliott of Shipton in the Parish of Winslowe in the County of Bucks Yeoman being somewhat Indisposed in Body but of sound and perfect minde and memory Praised be Almighty God therefore and Calling to minde the Certainety of death and the Uncertaine tyme thereof doe the One and Thirtyeth day of August Anno D(omi)ni 1715 make and Ordeyne this may last Will and Testament in manner and forme following (that is to say) First and Principally I Com(m)end my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my Maker hopeing through the Merritts death and Passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour to be made Partaker of Everlasting life and my Body I Com(m)itt to the Earth to be decently Buryed att the discretion of my Eldest Sonn Robert Elliott And as for such Temporall Estate as itt pleased Almighty God to Bestowe upon me I Give and dispose thereof as followeth Impri(mi)s I Give Will Devise and Bequeath unto my Eldest Sonn Robert Elliott and his heires forever All those my Five acres of land herein after ment(i)oned lyeing and being dispersedly in the Com(m)on feildes of Shipton aforesaid (Vizt) In Licehill Feild One Close of Arrable land and Sweard ground lying in Drymeade furlong conteyneing Three acres more or lesse the land of Charles Bowler lyeing on the East parte thereof  In the Redd Field One land lyeing in Lower Clay furlong shooteing into the highway the land of Thomas Henly lyeing on the East parte One land lyeing in Amersland furlong the land of Mr Lowndes lyeing on the East and West partes thereof In the Cow Pasture One acre in Broad moore Bushes the land of William Glenister lyeing on the West parte thereof Together with all the Hedges Ditches Trees Woods Underwoods Furze Hades Baulkes Furrowes Freeboards Com(m)ons Proffitts and Appurtenances whatsoever to the aforesaid Five acres of land belonging or in any wise Apperteyneing Provided always and upon this condition Neverthelesse That the said Robert Elliott my Sonn and his heires doe and shall out of the same well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto my Sonn Edward Elliott and unto my daughters Margarett Elliott and Elizabeth Elliott Twenty Pounds apeece of lawfull mony of Greate Brittaine within Twelve months next after my decease And doe alsoe out of the same Pay and discharge my Funerall Expences and alsoe all such debts as I shall Owe to any Person or Persons whatsoever att the tyme of my decease And doe alsoe out of the same Yearely and every Yeare during the naturall life of Frances my loveing Wife well and truely pay or cause to be paid unto the said Frances my loving Wife One Annuity or Yearely Summe of Thirty Shillings of lawfull mony of Greate Brittaine without any deduction or Abatement for Taxes or otherwise howsoever by halfe Yearely Payments the first Payment to become due and payable Six months next after my decease And doe alsoe Permitt and Sufferr the said Frances my loveing Wife during the Terme of her naturall life to hold and Enjoy the Bedd Roome belowe staires belonging to the Mesuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell  But in case the said Robert Elliott my Sonn or his heires shall Neglect or Refuse to pay the said Twenty Pounds apeece unto the said Edward Elliott Margarett Elliott and Elizabeth Elliott in  manner as aforesaid or my debts and Funerall Expences or the said Annuity of Thirty Shillings p(er) annum unto the said Frances my Wife in manner as aforesaid or to Permitt  and sufferr the said Frances my Wife to have and Enjoy the said Bedd Roome belowe staires belonging to the Mesuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell in manner as aforesaid Then I Give Will Devise and Bequeath the said Five acres of land herein before ment(i)oned and the Appertenances belonging to the same unto the said Edward Elliott Margarett Elliott and Elizabeth Elliott and theire heires forever they Paying out of the same my debts and

[Page 2] Funerall Expences and the said Annuity of Thirty Shillings p(er) annum unto the said Frances my Wife in manner as aforesaid Item I Give Will Devise and Bequeath unto the said Robert Elliott my Eldest Sonn and his heires forever All that my Mesuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell and the Outhouses Backside and Appurtenances thereunto belonging And alsoe all other my Coppyhold land not herein before ment(i)oned lyeing and being within the Parish of Winslowe aforesaid and the Appurtenances thereunto belonging he the said Robert Elliott my Sonn and his heires Permitting the said Frances my Wife to hold and Enjoy the Bedd Roome below staires belonging to the said mesuage or Tenement for the Terme of her naturall life without Paying any Rent or Reward for the same Item  I Give Will Devise and Bequeath unto the said Frances my loveing Wife All my household goods to be delivered unto her Imediately after my decease Item All the Rest of my Goods Chattells and Personall Estate whatsoever and wheresoever not herein before Bequeathed  I Give Will Devise and Bequeath unto John Elliott my Sonn and the said Frances my Wife whome I make Executor and Executrix of this my last Will and Testament And lastly I doe hereby Revoake and make voide all former Wills by me heretofore made and doe declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Wittnesse whereof I have to this my Will Conteyned in Two Sheetes of Paper to the first Sheete Sett my hand and to the last Sheete my hand and Seale this One and Thirtyeth day of August Anno D(omi)ni 1715

[Translation] Presented on 4 May 1716 by Frances Elliott, widow, and John Elliott, son, executors named in the will of the said deceased, as a true, full and entire inventory of the goods etc., on condition however of adding, etc., if, etc.


Notes

Robert Elliott was bur. 5 Jan 1715/16. He was the son of Robert and Dorothy Elliot bap. 30 March 1647; he was left out of his father's will but benefited from a deathbed surrender.

His children were:

Hade: A strip of land left unploughed as a boundary line and means of access between two ploughed portions of a field (OED)
