[p.1] This is the last Will and Testament of me George Jones of Buckingham in the County of Bucks Lacebuyer made and published this twenty sixth day of December in the Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty five  I give devise and bequeath unto my friends George Cross of Winslow in the County of Bucks Draper and George Sirett of Buckingham aforesaid Chymist and Druggist their heirs and assigns all that my messuage tenement or farm house farm lands grounds and hereditaments situate and being in the Parish of Wappenham in the County of Northampton now in the Occupation of Thomas Boyson part whereof was devised to me by the Will of my late Uncle Mr John Jones deceased and is thereby charged with the payment of the sum of One thousand pounds to or in favor of my children by my present Wife and \of/ the yearly sum of Ten pounds to my Mother Elizabeth Jones for her life and the remaining part whereof was purchased by me of and from my Brother Newman Jones and the whole of which premises is Mortgaged to the said Newman Jones for securing the sum of Two thousand pounds and interest or is otherwise charged therewith and One thousand pounds part whereof is also charged upon or made payable out of the said last mentioned lands by the said Will of the said John Jones deceased with the rights members and appurtenances thereto belonging Upon Trust as soon as conveniently may be after my decease or at such other time as my said Trustees shall in their discretion think fit to sell and absolutely dispose of the said premises in one or more Lot or Lots and either by Public Auction or Private Contract with liberty to buy in the same or any part thereof at any Auction and resell the same in manner aforesaid without being

[p.2] answerable for any diminution in price occasioned thereby and also to rescind or vary the Terms of any Contract for Sale that may have been entered into And out of the monies arising from such Sale after satisfying and discharging all monies charged upon the said premises and also all costs charges and expences incidental to such Sale to set apart the sum of One thousand pounds and to pay and apply the interest dividends and annual proceeds thereof unto and for my Wife Mary Jones and her assigns during her life and for so long time as she shall continue my Widow And upon the decease or second marriage of her my said Wife (which shall first happen) Upon trust to pay and apply the said interest …  to or for the benefit of my several children by my … present Wife during their respective lives in equal parts and shares for their separate use independent of any husbands with whom they may respectively intermarry and without power of anticipation and so that their respective receipts alone or those of any person whom they respectively may from time to time appoint to receive such … interest … when due shall be \a/ sufficient discharge for the same And after the decease of any or either of my … children I direct that the principal of the share of each of them so dying shall be held upon Trust for her child or children or other issue living at the time of their respective deaths to be equally divided between them (if more than one) such issue to take Per Stirpes and not Per Capita  But in case any or either of my … children shall die either in my lifetime or after my death without leaving issue Then I direct that the share of each of them so dying as well original as accruing under this present provision shall be held upon like Trusts for the others or other of my … children and their … issue in like manner as hereinbefore directed concerning the original fund And as to the residue of the monies arising from the Sale hereinbefore directed and remaining after retaining paying and setting apart the several sums of money hereinbefore mentioned I direct that the Trustees for the time being of this my Will to stand possessed thereof upon Trust to pay or apply the interest … to or for the benefit of my two daughters by my first Wife deceased during their respective lives in equal shares for their separate use in the same manner as hereinbefore directed concerning the said sum of One thousand pounds bequeathed for the benefit of my daughters by my present Wife as aforesaid And upon the decease of my said two daughters by my first Wife or either of them Upon like Trusts for the benefit of their respective children or other issue with the like benefit of survivorship between them in case of the death of either of them without having issue as hereinbefore directed in the case of the children by my present Wife  And I give and devise unto the said George Cross and George Sirett their heirs and assigns All that my Messuage Tenement or Public House called or known by the name or sign of the Bull and the Cottage or Tenement thereto adjoining situate and being in Winslow aforesaid and now in the Occupation of Richard Baldwin and his undertenants with the rights members and appurtenances thereto belonging Upon trust to pay the rents and profits thereof unto my said two daughters by my first Wife in equal shares as Tenants in common during their respective lives for their separate use in the same manner as directed hereinbefore concerning the income of the residue of the monies arising from  the Sale of my Estate at Wappenham  And upon the decease of my last mentioned daughters respectively Upon trust for the child or children or other issue of my said two daughters respectively and his her or their heirs and assigns for ever as Tenants in common if more than one but so nevertheless that the child … of each daughter shall take the share of … their Parent only And in case either of my last mentioned daughters shall depart this life either in my lifetime or after my decease without having issue then I direct the moiety of such daughter so dying shall be held upon like Trust for the benefit of the survivor of my said two … daughters and her issue as hereinbefore directed with respect to the original undivided moiety of such daughter  And I hereby declare that in such case the Trustees for the time being of this my Will shall in their discretion think fit and whether for the more easy division of the last mentioned premises or otherwise it shall be

[p.3] lawful for them to make sale and absolutely dispose of the … premises in the same manner … as heretobefore directed concerning my … said Estate at Wappenham  And in such case my … Trustees shall stand possessed of the monies arising from such Sale Upon like Trust for the benefit of my … two daughters by my first Wife as hereinbefore declared of the residue of the monies arising from the Sale of my … Estate at Wappenham  And as to all and singular my monies and securities for money stock in Trade Household goods and furniture rights credits and effects And personal estate Whatsoever (remaining after payment of my just debts and funeral and testamentary expences) I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said Wife and my several children living at the time of my decease in equal parts and shares the shares to my said children to be paid to them respectively when and as soon as they respectively shall have attained the age of twenty one years  And I direct that the provision made hereby for my said Wife shall be accepted by her in lieu of all Dower and thirds to which she might otherwise be entitled out of any of my Estates or any part thereof and is made upon condition that she do execute a Release of such Dower and Thirds when thereunto required by the Trustees … of this my Will or by any person entitled to any interest in or out of my said Estates or any part thereof  And I nominate and appoint the said George Cross and George Sirett to be joint Executors in Trust of this my Will  And I hereby declare that the receipt or receipts of the Trustees … for any sum or sums of money which shall be payable to them under the Trusts of this my Will and whether for purchase money or the Sale of my … Estates or any part thereof or otherwise shall effectually discharge the person … paying the same and that such person shall not be bound to see the application or accountable for the misapplication of the same  And I direct that the … Trustees shall lay out and invest all the monies which shall come to their hands under the Trusts herby in them reposed in the purchase of Stock in some or out of the Public Funds of Great Britain or on Mortgage Securities as they shall see fit and from time to time as occasion may require vary and change the stocks funds and securities on which the same shall from time to time be invested  And also that it shall and in as be lawful for them to … pay and apply the interest … of such part of my Trust Estate to the principal or income whereof any person … shall for the time being be presumptively entitled or such part thereof as they shall deem sufficient for the purpose in or towards the maintenance and education of such person … and the residue thereof if any shall be accumulated … (but the income from such accumulated fund shall also be applicable if required in the same manner as the income of the original fund)  And also that it shall be lawful for my … Trustees in their discretion to advance any portion of the presumptive share of principal of the … Trust property for or towards the placing out and advancement in the World of such person …  And I direct that such payments and advances shall be allowed in the accounts of the … Trustees notwithstanding the death of such person … under the age of twenty one years or before having acquired a vested interest in my … Trust property  And I hereby declare that if my … Trustees or either of them shall die in my lifetime [standard provision is made for the  Trustees or future Trustees dying, declining their responsibilities, wishing to become discharged or becoming incapable of fulfilling their responsibilities together with reference to their immunity from accountability in the event of specified failures in the duties of a Trustee. Their financial entitlements in undertaking their role are also specified.]

[p.4] In Witness whereof I the said George Jones have to this my last Will and Testament contained in seven sheets of paper to the first six sheets thereof set my hand and to this seventh and last my hand and seal the day and year before written George Jones [signature]

See the Blake Family page for more information. George Jones (b.1795) was the eldest son of George Jones (1771-1836) and Elizabeth Blake (1774-1856). His first wife Ann, nee Morecraft, died before 1824; with her he had two daughters, Elizabeth Ann and Nancy Morecraft Jones. In the 1851 Census, Mary Jones the widow aged 49 was living in Moreton Road, Buckingham with her daughters Sarah aged 26 and Mildred aged 21. She was still there in 1861.
