| This is the first year in which the register recorded the names of the sureties (3rd column) and the amounts of the recognizances. In most cases the landlord put up £30 and the surety £20, but if the landlord did not provide the £30, two sureties both had to do so. The landlords often stood as surety for each other. | ||
